“Ask the Art Professor”
“Ask the Art Professor” is an advice column for visual artists written by RISD Foundation Studies Professor Clara Lieu. This is your chance to ask a professional artist/educator your questions about being an artist, the creative process, career advice, etc. Anything from technical questions to large and philosophical questions are welcome. A comprehensive article will be written for every question.

Learning From Others
Among the possibilities available to fill your day at RISD are the many creative visitors who stream to the campus. Artists, designers, musicians, writers and leaders of every possible stripe spend time here speaking, in critiques and learning and observing themselves.
One of our most expansive lecture series is Shared Voices, which is sponsored by the President’s Office and brings thinkers from beyond the immediate boundaries of art and design. From particle physicists to learning technologists, these speakers expand the connections that visual creators have to one another and to the broader universe. The pace of change we are all experiencing can be both unsettling and exhilarating, and these Shared Voices visitors help us capitalize upon our moment in this broad arc of the path into the future.

Exposé & 2nd Life
RISD’s Exposé and 2nd Life are two student run organizations, that have decided to come together and collaborate on opening a storefront in the downtown area of Providence. This storefront will function as a part gallery space, part materials recycling center. This collaboration gives students the opportunity to learn about business/ entrepreneur, sustainability, and networking with in/outside of the RISD community. Welcome Class of 2016
WELCOME Class of 2016! Here’s to new friendships, journeys and adventures! Our Orientation Leaders are happy to help out and have been leading various activities. Students have moved in, said farewell to their parents and families and are busy doing lots of activities for Orientation. It was great to see the familiar acts of parents carrying many bags from CVS, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and cartons of beef flavored ramen noodles. Families walking around with campus maps and pointing at various RISD buildings at intersections, trying to get themselves situated. Our office is revving up for the new prospective students and we are happy to see so many new faces on campus. RISD Admissions office is busy preparing my travel for recruitment.

Today, I am helping to introduce this year’s Orientation speakers, Nate and Kirk Mueller, 2010 MFA Digital Media alumni. They are a dynamic duo impacting design and changing how we create and think about interactive media.
