For transfer students

September may seem far away, but there’s still a lot to do once you've been accepted. The following list will give you a month-by-month view of upcoming events, deadlines and next steps to remember.

Please note:

Required tasks (marked with an R) need to be completed in the incoming student portal. This page will be updated over the coming months with additional deadlines and tasks. If you are an international student, please make sure to refer to our international student support content.

April 2020

  • Third week of April: Transfer students notified
  • Start looking out for Countdown to RISD emails

May 2020

  • May 1: Project Thrive applications open (for those who qualify)
  • May 1: POSE applications open
  • due May 22: Transfer students submit $500 enrollment deposit R
    (3 days after submitting your deposit you will receive an email about your RISD email account)
  • May 28: Housing portal opens
  • May 29: Online housing selection
  • TBA: Join ArtWorks (RISD Careers’ opportunity board)

June 2020

  • due June 1: Complete housing application R
  • due June 1: Complete International forms (required for international students) R
  • due June 1: Sign up for RISD Alerts R
  • due June 1: Complete Title IX online training R
  • due June 1: Review student policies R
  • due June 1: Upload your health records provided by your health care provider R
  • due June 1: Submit ID card photo R
  • due June 1: Project Thrive applications (notification of acceptance during the last week of June)
  • due June 1: POSE applications

July 2020

  • due July 1: Submit final high school transcripts R
  • TBA: Summer Experimental and Foundation Studies students move in (assessment of prior college-level art classes determines need to attend)
  • TBA: Summer Experimental and Foundation Studies Orientation
  • July 6: Summer Experimental and Foundation Studies courses begin
  • end of July: Gather original documents/materials needed for student employment (ex: driver’s license, government photo ID, US passport, social security card, birth certificate with seal)

August 2020

  • August 14: Summer Experimental and Foundation Studies students move out (these students must attend fall New Student Orientation and MAY opt to stay in housing until that time?)
  • due August 15: Submit first bill payment R

September 2020

  • September 3–5: Move in and International Student Orientation (required for all students needing a visa to study at RISD. If you do not require a US visa but consider yourself part of the international student community and want to attend International Orientation, please fill out the “International Orientation” form in your incoming student portal and we’ll reach out with more information)
  • September 3–5: Move in and POSE (Pre-Orientation Service Experience) (for participating students)
  • September 3–5: Move in and Project Thrive Orientation (for participating students)
  • September 6–8: Move in and New Student Orientation (required for all new undergraduate students)
  • TBA: Parent/Family Orientation
  • September 9: Start of RISD and Brown fall classes

October 2020

November 2020

  • November 25–29: RISD Thanksgiving break (RISD housing remains open)

December 2020

  • December 11: Last day of Brown's fall semester
  • December 15: Last day of RISD's fall semester
  • December 16: RISD housing closes for winter break (but students may request to stay for an additional fee)
