The following list gives you a month-by-month view of upcoming events, deadlines and next steps for all incoming transfer students.

Please note:

Required tasks (marked with an R) need to be completed in the incoming student portal. This page will be updated over the coming months with additional deadlines and tasks. If you are an international student please make sure to refer to our international student support content.

May 2023

  • Early May: Transfer student notification
  • May 19: Deadline for students to submit $500 enrollment deposit (non-refundable)
  • May 22 (UPDATED): Housing portal opens and housing selection begins - Students seeking a change or an accommodation for their housing on campus due to a medical reason should review the Medical Accommodation guidelines and timeline. Contact Disability Support Services with questions. R
  • May 31: Submit all health forms and vaccination information to your online patient Portal. R
  • May 31: Deadline for medical accommodations & residence waivers to be submitted

June 2023

  • June 5: Housing application due R
  • Mid-June: Watch your RISD email for regular outreach from Student Financial Services and respond to any requests for missing financial aid information
  • Mid-June: Join ArtWorks (RISD Careers' opportunity board)
  • June 14: Wednesday Webinar 7–8:30 pm ET
    Get Involved with Residence Life, Center for Student Involvement, & Intercultural Student Engagement
    Learn more about getting involved on the RISD campus and locally within Providence, as well as finding your community through shared identities, hobbies and passions. Each department will discuss the kinds of events, programs and areas through which you can connect and engage socially. Watch recording >
  • June 16: Transfer student room assignments for summer and fall 2023 will be sent

    Get Paid with Student Employment, Student Financial Services, and International Student and Scholar Affairs

    Get Around with Public Safety, Dining, Card Services, Food Pantry, RISD Store, Mailroom
    There are a lot of new things to navigate when you go to college. These teams are here to support many of your basic needs when you arrive on campus, whether it's eating a good meal, picking up your packages, or getting the supplies you need for a last-minute project! Watch recording >
  • June 29: Summer EFS classes begin

July 2023

  • July 3: Submit final transcripts R
  • July 3: Review your fall bill, which will be emailed to your student RISD email address. Students can add authorized users

    Get Ahead with Extrademics
    Every student manages their classes and studio space differently.
    The Extrademics team is here to support, expand, and enrich your time at RISD through advocacy, tutoring, research, grant writing, and career preparation. With 15 departments in total, this team can support your academics holistically. Watch recording >

  • End of July: Gather original documents/materials needed for student employment (ex: driver’s license, government photo ID, US passport, social security card, birth certificate with seal)

August 2023

  • August 1: Fall bill is due
  • August 4: Webinar 7 am ET
    Cultural Considerations
    Join us for the Cultural Considerations Webinar to learn about some topics that you may experience within and outside of the classroom as you navigate studying in the United States. Some of the topics include: American academic expectations, cultural adjustment and transition, communications (small talk, idioms, etc) and relationships, belonging and community building.   • August 9: Wednesday Webinar 7–8 pm ET
    Federal Work Study 101
    Students who receive federal work study as part of their financial aid package can learn more about what exactly is work study, the benefits of work study, how work study can help pay off your tuition balance, where to find available jobs on campus, and more. More info >
  • August 10: Last day of Summer EFS courses

September 2023

  • September 3: Residence halls open for transfer students who received a waiver and did not participate in the summer EFS program
  • September 3 – September 5: New Student Orientation for all new, incoming students which includes transfer (both summer and fall start), international, and domestic students
  • September 6: First day of classes and Welcome Back evening activities for ALL students
