Housing portal opens

You can access the Housing Portal starting May 6 through the link below (your RISD username and password are your login credentials). Once logged in you’ll be able to begin your housing application. You will share information about your lifestyle preferences and connect with potential roommates. The application process will remain open through May. In late May, you and your selected roommate will be given a time slot and instructions on how to select a room. Continue to check your RISD email and participate in webinars to learn more about this process.

If you have a medical need that requires a housing accommodation, please follow the Medical Housing Accommodation guidelines in addition to completing the housing application. We also offer a range of housing options for transgender and gender non-conforming residents. If you are interested in learning more about these options, please contact Anu Meschisen, Associate Director for Housing Operations.

Begin to ship your belongings for Summer EFS

Students participating in Summer Experimental and Foundation Studies should ship their items directly to RISD. Please check out the "For Transfer Students" section of the detailed instructions for new students provided by Mail Services.

RISD has partnered with Jones Storage to meet your storage needs for your belongings between the end of SEFS and the start of the fall semester.

During the first year of enrollment in the Dual Degree Program, all students reside in RISD housing. At RISD, all first-year students live together. In addition, Dual Degree Program students are housed together within the first-year buildings to provide an additional opportunity for mutual support.

Enrollment deposit deadline

Submit a nonrefundable enrollment deposit of $500 to reserve your space (this is applied to your first tuition bill). Please use our secure online site to pay your deposit by credit card or authorize a bank transfer from your checking or savings account via the link below. You’ll need to indicate your name, RISD student ID number and the semester you will enroll (as indicated in your acceptance letter). All future tuition bills and other fees can be paid at this site as well.

Pre-Orientation Service Experience application release

First-year and transfer students may apply for the Pre-Orientation Service Experience (POSE), an intensive five-day program prior to New Student Orientation that fosters incoming student engagement with the community around campus. This program empowers you to use art and design to make a difference in the world and creates a foundation for your continued involvement in community service during your time at RISD.

Applications are reviewed during a 1-2 week period after the deadline and students will be notified of acceptance shortly thereafter. On average, 65-70% of applicants are accepted to the POSE program.

Transcript deadline

Have your final college transcript sent to the Admissions Office as soon as possible. RISD requires all transfer students to have satisfactorily completed at least the first or freshman year at a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

If you're participating in Summer EFS you can expect to receive a notification from Residence Life about summer housing after you fill out an application in the housing portal.

If you're participating in Summer EFS you are required to attend an orientation program in the summer as well as the general orientation for new students in September (detailed schedule forthcoming).

Summer EFS classes run

If you're participating in the Summer EFS you will take three studios: Drawing, Design and Spatial Dynamics. Led by EFS faculty with wide-ranging backgrounds in art and design, courses are structured to encourage a creative process that is fundamental to all departments at RISD.

RISD Health Services requires all new students to submit health forms. Please be aware that your registration is not considered complete until your completed and signed forms have been received by Health Services. Students who have not submitted completed health forms will not be able to receive their course schedule and begin attending classes.

Project Thrive applications due

Project Thrive is a program designed specifically for students who are the first in their families to attend college. The program provides students with weekly community gatherings, a strong connection to the Office of Intercultural Student Engagement, mentorship and off-campus excursions. Project Thrive supports students during their academic transition and helps them achieve cultural success. Please email ise@risd.edu with any questions.

Health forms deadline

RISD Health Services requires all new students to submit health forms. BRDD students are also required to fill out and submit Brown's health forms to their Health Services office.

Brown|RISD Dual Degree students may use the health and counseling services of either institution, regardless of where the student resides. Students will pay Brown’s health services and health insurance fees.

First-year BRDD students will move into their first-year residence hall at RISD on Thursday, September 3rd. Between Thursday and Saturday they will move between special Brown | RISD Dual Degree Orientation events and parts of Brown New Student Orientation. First-Year BRDD students will then fully participate in RISD Orientation beginning the afternoon of Sunday, September 6th, as residents at RISD.

Given steps being taken worldwide to limit the spread of COVID-19, the Admissions office is suspending all prospective student events this spring. This includes OPEN RISD, our on-campus admitted students event.
