A New Residence Hall Takes Shape

When you arrive on campus, you’ll notice a major construction project adjacent to the Quad, where first-year students live. RISD is working with award-winning architect Nader Tehrani (an alumnus from the Class of 86) and his firm NADAAA on an innovative new residence hall for 152 undergraduate students. Thanks to thoughtful input from the campus community, NADAAA’s design is specifically tailored to meet the needs of art and design students. It features common spaces for socializing, making and displaying work.

Everyone at RISD is excited about what this new residence hall will mean for our community. But while we appreciate seeing daily progress, we also recognize that any construction project has the potential to be disruptive. With that in mind, we are working with the contractor and our own facilities staff to make sure that construction takes place during weekday hours when most students are in class or working in their studios.

Should you have any concerns once you arrive on campus, please reach out to your Resident Advisor, who can help relay information to the appropriate Residence Life or Student Affairs staff members. We will do our best to respond to any issues raised and suggest adjustments to the construction schedule as needed.

The new facility is expected to be ready for students by the start of classes in fall 2019, with renovations to other Quad buildings to follow.
